These examples answer whether a route exists. They do not establish the requirements of a different city, an experienced-officer position, or a future recruitment campaign. Follow the vacancy linked from the official recruiting site before deciding you qualify.

Can you apply with a GED?

The two examples above include GED routes. For another employer, look for an explicit equivalency clause. If the notice says only “high school diploma,” ask whether a GED is accepted and which proof must be submitted.

If you studied abroad, send the recruiter the name and issuing country of the qualification rather than assuming it will be treated as a U.S. diploma. Ask which evaluation or additional documentation is required. Avoid paying for an evaluation service until the agency confirms that it accepts that service.

Minimum, preferred, and required credits mean different things

When you read a job notice, highlight the minimum requirement separately from desirable qualifications. Then look for a credit requirement, any subject restriction, and the date by which it must be met. A degree and a specified number of college credits are different credentials; record exactly what the notice asks for.

Make a comparison sheet with columns for your existing credential, the agency's wording, missing documents, and the recruiter's answer. This prevents a general search result about “no degree needed” from becoming your only basis for an application.

Before enrolling in college just to qualify

Ask the recruiting office:

• Does my qualification satisfy the minimum for this specific recruit opening?
• Are college credits required, preferred, or relevant only to a separate incentive?
• Are there accepted alternatives, and where are they documented?
• When do official transcripts need to arrive?

Then compare the cost and timing of any additional education with your target vacancy. A school should not be your only source for an employer's hiring rules.
